The Winter Wedding Jacket Conundrum

With the wedding approaching fast and the winter upon us (in Australia), I have continued my ongoing search for a jacket to wear in the snow!

There are a few options available, from wraps, capes, coats etc. Below are the best options for winter weddings, and I have also tried to list some actual purchasing options.

The fur wrap/shrug option

I love these and have always wanted an excuse to wear one. At first I thought this was a brilliant idea for my wedding day, but then I really thought about it. I am used to hot days. I put a jumper on if the temperature gets below 25degrees. This, will not do for me.

However, Alannah Hill sells them every winter. This year they don't have white, but the pink one is lovely. They have Pink, Black and a Plum colour. If you have an Alannah Hill outlet near you they also have Brown and some feathery white ones from previous seasons. They do ship to some countries internationally so check out the delivery page to see if they ship to your country.

The Bridal Cape/Cloak

I think these are super cool, and there are a lot of options as far as capes and cloaks go. You can get long ones, short ones, with hoods, without hoods. They also come in different types of fabric, so if you want something warmer or cooler you have that option as well.

Considering my luggage limit for the wedding I don't think I will go for a cape, as much as I love them I don't think I could comfortably walk down the street in one on our honeymoon.

But if luggage restriction is not an issue this cape (on the left) is from Wonderful Wraps they have a lot of options for capes, shawls, wraps that you can purchase online.

Keep in mind, capes can be quite expensive and the ones available on Wonderful Wraps are going to put a dent in your wedding budget. If you are dead set on one though I recommend trying a search on Etsy for Wedding Capes and checking out what options they have available. But remember you get what you pay for, a $100 cape is not going to be as luxurious as the 500 pound one available on Wonderful Wraps!

The Jacket

This is what I have decided on getting, a jacket, one that I can hopefully re-use on our travels through Canada after the wedding.

Luckily we have hit winter time in Perth now so there are a lot of jacket/coat options out now, and thankfully for returns policies I can buy one, take it home try it with the dress and if it doesn't work take it back! (Much better than the "you can't take photos" issues with buying your wedding dress!).

The kind of jacket I want needs to have some kind of warmth too it, so a thin fabric wont be sufficient. I have been looking at all sorts of jackets, and not all of them white either. I think a bit of colour on your wedding day is perfectly acceptable! Especially when you are surrounded by white snow! (hopefully!).

All of these Jackets come from Forever New and Alannah Hill. I find Forever New is more affordable, but the Alannah Hill coats are beautiful and long lasting.

I really needed a shorter cropped one to go with my dress, so i'm currently trying the Bella Double Breasted Pea Coat from Forever New. Its quite thick and is shorter than some of the others. I think paired with a scarf it would be really nice. I wish it was the colour of the Ana Hooded Swing coat though (which is lovely by the way).

I will keep you posted on my decision.
